A member asks: Why do we do the Rookie Draft before the Free Agent Draft? For me personally who I will draft in the FA Draft would play a tremendous factor in who I would draft in the Rookie Draft.
-------------- Seems to me it was that way (free agent draft first followed by the rookie draft) at one time, but I cannot find anything on it. One reason I can think of for keeping it the way we have it now (rookie draft first followed by free agent draft) is that we never know how many rounds / days the free agent draft will take. It is completely dependent on how many players teams cut during roster cut down week and therefore how many roster spots they need to fill during the free agent draft. So we'd need to schedule the rookie draft far enough beyond the anticipated end of the free agent draft so that we would not have a conflict.
If we were going to change the draft, I would prefer if we didn't draft during the middle/end of June and beginning of July. I would move the FA draft to August.
On the eve of the KRFL Rookie Draft I'll put in my preference for leaving the sequence as is. I like having the rookie draft scheduled close to the conclusion of the NFL Draft. I probably am in the minority, but I like the uncertainty (no training camp injuries or updated depth charts) of having the rookie draft sooner rather than later, which implies that it would occur before rather than after the FA draft.
