Current Rule (as adjusted for 17 regular season games): 4.3 - At the start of each season each team must have at least the following number of attempts by the skilled players on their rosters: a. 425 pass attempts b. 320 rushes (includes attempts by QB’s & WR’s) c. 215 receptions
Proposed Change: a. 450 pass attempts b. 350 rushes (includes attempts by QB’s & WR’s) c. 250 receptions
Explanation: 2021 NFL Team Stats (17 game schedule) : Most/Least/Average Passing attempts: 731 / 494 / 585. KRFL Minimum adjusted for a 17 game schedule is 425 Rushing attempts: 551 / 380 / 452. KRFL Minimum adjusted for a 17 game schedule is 320 Pass Receptions: 492 / 293 / 379. KRFL Minimum adjusted for a 17 game schedule is 215
In addition: • We have 24 teams vs. NFL has 32, or 75% • We allow players to reach 115% of real life usage before their performance is reduced.
The minimum attempts rules have not been modified since at least before the 2013 season. So that teams can remain competitive in games the last half of the season by having enough players with attempts/receptions, I propose the following minimums: • 450 minimum Passing attempts which is just above 75% of the 2021 NFL team average of 439. This is an increase of 25. • 350 minimum Rushing attempts which is just above 75% of the 2021 NFL team average. An increase of 30. • 250 minimum Pass receptions which is 66% of the 2021 NFL team average and is 56% of the proposed new pass attempt minimum. This is an increase of 35, and I think 56% is a reasonable average pass completion percentage when compared to the NFL average of 65%.
Further: • With more and more teams “going for it” on fourth down, I do not propose changing the punt return, punt or field goal minimum. • However, since more kick offs are resulting in touchbacks, my proposal includes eliminating the minimum number of kick returns, though teams would still need to have at least one player on its team with a kick return.
Since we have not yet done roster cuts or the free agent draft, I propose these changes are effective for the 2022 KRFL season.
